Creating Comfortable and Productive Work Environments

To create office spaces that will keep employees and tenants comfortable and productive, you need to provide high indoor air quality, low sound levels, and reliability while reducing your total cost of operation. In addition, sustainable design and systems are becoming an important factor in attracting tenants and employees. Your office building’s high-performance, sustainable comfort system can be an asset to your bottom line.

Retail spaces have the same comfort requirements, with the added complexity of varying occupancy depending on the time of day or the season of the year. Managing your comfort systems to meet the precise needs of employees and shoppers while managing your operating costs is imperative.

Nortek Air Solutions has a long history of providing efficient and reliable HVAC systems for office buildings and retail spaces.

Energy Efficiency and Sustainability

Commercial offices and retail centers frequently adopt green building design certifications like LEED to enhance sustainability.  Commercial space comes in all sizes so it is advantageous to work with a company that can scale its products large and small. Nortek Air Solutions’ FANWALL TECHNOLOGY is one example of a scalable product option to match the airflow capacity and part-load performance needed for these spaces. And we offer high efficiency motor options and fan wheel alternatives to match your performance.

A building’s fan system can be the highest consumable of energy in a building so you can enhance your sustainability design by using high efficiency motors and fans.

Decarbonization Strategies…

… for air handling equipment in commercial facilities often focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving energy efficiency. Nortek Air Solutions can help you with energy efficiency improvements, geothermal energy, air source heat pump options for heating and cooling, energy recovery strategies, and the use of low GWP refrigerants to reduce the environmental impact.

Free Cooling with Economizers…

…can reduce energy consumption when outdoor air temperature allows it.  Water economizer coils are used to pre-cool air without compressor operation, reducing the amount of mechanical cooling needed to meet load requirements.  The water economizer coil can be used anytime the ambient outside air temperature is below the return fluid temperature of the system. The system uses a cooling tower’s ability, at lower temperatures, to provide condenser water cold enough to cool the building air directly through a water coil.

An airside economizer uses outside air to help condition indoor air and achieve greater energy efficiency. Economizers are commonly used in data centers or in buildings with a climate that allows for economizing, to reduce the reliance on mechanical cooling, such as chillers or compressors.

The Right Motor…

…for the right application. Variable air volume (VAV) systems operate at less than rated speed much of the time, and many motors are oversized for their application. Whereas the efficiency of a NEMA Premium induction motor falls off dramatically as the speed and/or load declines, FANWALL Ultra-Premium Efficient motors maintain their high efficiency over a very wide operating range at lower than rated speeds.

Humidity Control…

…in commercial buildings is as essential as temperature control for creating comfortable building environments for occupants and for designing efficient, cost-effective HVAC systems. Proper humidity levels contribute to a comfortable indoor environment for occupants.  High humidity can make spaces feel warmer than they are, while low humidity can cause dryness and discomfort. Maintaining appropriate humidity levels helps prevent health issues also.

Our advanced humidity control technologies, available on many of our products, allow you to effectively control the humidity in your building spaces. We offer more coil options than most, so you’ll be able to match your coil to your application needs and help solve even the most demanding of dehumidification applications. Our innovative thermal break technologies prevent thermal bridging and eliminate sweat or frost on your air handler, which can lead to additional moisture in the air. In addition, we offer custom units with Energy Recovery Systems.

Data Center Cooling…

…can result in high energy and water consumption and the need for sustainable practices. Nortek Air Solutions can help you in implementing green technologies and renewable energy sources to reduce carbon footprint.

Efficiently managing heat generated by high-density servers requires innovations in cooling technologies to maintain optimal temperatures. Scalability, flexibility and reliability is what we can provide to help you adapt to rapidly changing technology and business needs and ensuring infrastructure can scale up or down efficiently.

Tenant Management…

…is what has made the Mammoth V-Cube™ vertical self-contained air conditioner ideal for commercial office and retail space.  Famous for its quiet operation and compact footprint, the V-Cube™ self-contained system minimizes the space required for an air conditioning system and gives the individual tenants in a building control over the HVAC system and operating costs.

Assured Acoustics…

…comes from innovative solutions for sound control and noise reduction to eliminate excess noise and distractions in your occupied space. Our FANWALL TECHNOLOGY can lower sound levels and often eliminate energy-robbing attenuation devices. We also have alternatives to sound traps that can minimize unit length additions and reduce static pressure losses which translates to less energy costs.

Dedicated Outdoor Systems

Our Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems (DOAS) can significantly enhance commercial buildings in several ways.  DOAS provides consistent and controlled ventilation, ensuring that fresh air is continuously supplied to the occupied space.  DOAS also aids in pollutant removal by effectively removing indoor pollutants such as carbon dioxide, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other contaminants. DOAS helps maintain a healthier environment for building occupants. And our DOAS products are designed to handle 100% outdoor air to your building spaces.

Emergency Preparedness & Regulatory Compliance…

…starts with selecting equipment that has been tested and pre-certified to support the need for a facility’s air handling system to remain operational during natural disasters. That is why we have invested in equipment safety certifications like HCAI’s OSHPD, Miami-Dade Product Control, IBC Seismic and ETL. While some of these certifications started as state specific requirements, their use is propagating throughout North America as natural disasters know no bounds.

These certifications ensure that our equipment meets high standards of performance and reliability, which is crucial in commercial settings where building environmental systems must remain active in the event of a natural disaster. They also help facilities comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards, reducing the risk of legal issues and penalties.

Protecting Your Investment…

…begins with good air handling cabinet design that prevents moisture from condensing on the outside of the cabinet. The dew-point temperature is the temperature at which moisture leaves the air and condenses on objects, just as dew forms on grass and plant leaves. In nature, it is a beautiful site. On HVAC equipment, sweating can be a sign of bigger problems. Our thermal break designs can help prevent HVAC units from sweating.
